Selanik Knitted Fabric
Selanik is a double-bed knit built on a rib base with tuck stitches added, which thickens the fabric, traps air and gives the surface a sweater-like character. In half-cardigan one bed tucks while the other knits, so the two faces differ; in full-cardigan the tuck alternates between beds and both faces look alike, with even more volume. The tucks open the rib widthwise, so selanik relaxes less than rib and comes off wider. It serves as the circular-knit alternative to flat-knit sweaters and cardigans.
Structure and production
We knit it on 30–34 inch double-bed machines of 14–18 gauge with Ne 10/1–20/1 cotton, acrylic, cotton/acrylic or viscose blends; 14 gauge gives a pronounced sweater texture, 18 gauge a finer one. Weights run 250–420 g/m² and open width 150–180 cm. Because the fabric tends to grow lengthwise, stenter settings and tension-free relaxation are confirmed on post-wash sample measurements.
At Meyas Tekstil we settle half or full cardigan and the target thickness first, then fix yarn count, gauge and the tucking bed's stitch length on the sample, and track acrylic and cotton yarn lots separately for shade consistency.
Sourcing and sampling

We knit Selanik on our own circular knitting machines in Kahramanmaraş and follow it from sample to bulk with one team.
Sample
We knit the sample on our own machine park in Kahramanmaraş and report greige and finished weight with post-wash dimensions.
Approval and recipe
Machine, settings and yarn lot of the approved sample go into the recipe; bulk is planned on that recipe.
Production and dispatch
Light-table inspection at the knitting exit, weight and width measured per lot; approved quality ships with traceable lot data.

Questions about Selanik.
What weight and width is Selanik produced in?
Our standard weight band is 250–420 g/m²; width: Açık en 150–180 cm. Values outside the band are developed on request; the target is confirmed on the sample with post-wash measurements before bulk is planned.
Which products is Selanik used for?
Typical end uses are kazak, hırka, dış giyim. Composition options include pamuk, akrilik, viskon karışımları; we recommend the yarn and finish according to the product and washing expectations.
How do both faces of a double-bed fabric stay even?
Cylinder and dial stitch lengths are balanced on the sample; an unbalanced setting causes lines or uneven shrinkage on one face. Since a single faulty needle leaves a line along the whole roll, a trial knit and light-table inspection are done for every lot.
